Anyone wanting to purchase a property, a car, open a bank account or have any other type of fiscal representation in Spain must obtain a N.I.E. numero identificacion extranjero (foreigners identification number) and appoint a qualified fiscal representative in Spain to deal with tax affairs as and when necessary.

The identification number is unique and personal to the holder, and is not transferable nor does it expire. To obtain your N.I.E. you will need to appoint a representative to assist you. This can be done by the representative handling the property purchase and costs are minimal and fixed. We strongly recommend that prospective buyers take this step sooner rather than later as the process can be somewhat tardy.
